    Hello,

I have a very large (45 inch diameter) oak tree that has to be removed because of decaying at the base of the trunk (diagnosed with ultrasound) and a history of dying back of large branches over the last 5 - 10 years.

A friend told me the guild might be interested in some of the large pieces of the wood for woodworking. If this is so, let me know. Could you notify members to see if anyone is interested?

It’s being cut down on Tuesday, September 28th. I need to know as soon as possible if anyone is interested. I hate to see all this good wood going to sawdust.

    Thank you,

    Joan Sandberg

Anyone interested in down by a cutting party? I wouldn’t want more than a piece or two, but would be happy to help with my chainsaw.

I'd be interested.  At least in a couple good sized pieces.

I reached out to Joan. She said this is a pin oak. 100' tall and 45" diameter at the base. I am going to try to stop by to take a look at it and see if there is anything interesting that we could specifically ask the tree company to leave for us. Let me know what you guys might want and I will get some pictures of the tree to share.

I stopped by and talked with Joan on Sat. and looked at the tree. It is a monster. The tree service is bringing in a crane tomorrow (Tues.) to take out the tree and will leave some pieces for us to pick up later this week. I gave Joan some parameters for what we would be interested in. She will send me a text tomorrow about how it goes.

I am interested.  Some quarter sawn platters would be nice.  I have a12 inch swing, so a section 30 inches in diameter an 16-18 inches long would be nice.  Where is it located?

It is kind of Raleigh Hills area. I will let you all know when I hear back from Joan about how it goes today.

Anyone able to go Saturday to pickup wood? I am planning to go. The tree came down Tuesday and the log truck was coming today I think. They were going to leave some pieces in the driveway.

Do you think she would mind if I stopped by today and grabbed some pieces. I'll already be in the area and it would save me a trip Saturday.
