I have cut some burls off of a maple stump and need someone to look at them to advise on how to cut the burls for maximum utilization.  I would also like to commission someone to turn a bowl and vase out of these burls. No experience, knowledge, tools or time to pursue doing this on my own.  I have experience in furniture making bit not turning. Looking for a highly skilled turner to look at the burls and give advice. Can take the burls locally to be looked at. Would like advice soon as there is opportunity to obtain more in larger size if recommended. LOOKING FOR HELP PLEASE.

Sorry you didn't get any response sooner. I was hoping that someone else would have a more experienced answer that I do.

Burls can be very tricky to decide how to cut them up. Even when you think you have it figured out, you still might end up with a void that ruins your blank. Sidewalk chalk and some circle templates are my friends when I am cutting up stuff.

Where are you at? With more and more daylight now, I might be able to swing by after work some time.
